Between sporting events for the kiddos and not having enough vacation time – taking a few weeks off isn’t always an option. A “Day-Trip” getaway might be just what you need!
#5 – Just an hour away from the Fox Cities is Green Lake – enjoy a day of relaxing at the Heidel House Resort & Spa. But don’t worry men, there’s a golf course across the street. Not to mention their fabulous food! If you have extra time, make sure you schedule a boat tour of the area.
#4 – Feeling Nostalgic for the good ol’ college days? State Street in Madison is where you need to be! Have an ice cream cone on the terrace. Stroll along Bascom Hill. And stop by State Street Brats for a pint on the outdoor patio. There’s still plenty of shopping to do in Downtown Madison. And, if you’re lucky enough to travel on a Saturday, the Farmer’s Market around the Capitol Building will keep you busy for a few hours!
#3 – Nicknamed “America’s Little Switzerland” visiting New Glarus, WI will make you feel as if you’ve traveled to Switzerland! Filled with baked goods, cheese, chocolates, and chalets – and no passport required! Make sure to stop by The New Glarus Brewing Company for a free, self-guided tour. Their brewery offers a gift shop and tasting room.
#2 – Wisconsin Dells is truly the waterpark capital of our state! Enjoy the day splashing in the water or shopping down Broadway. This is truly a tourist city – so if you’re going during the summer, be prepared to wait in a few lines. There are multiple water parks to choose from. If waterparks aren’t high on your list, be sure to see The Tommy Bartlett Water Show. The show runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day Weekend – rain or shine! The Tommy Bartlett Show really took off in the 1970’s and helped turn the Wisconsin Dells into a real tourist destination!
#1 – Door County! There are so many wonderful spots to visit, it’s tough to pick just one! If shopping is your passion, Downtown Fish Creek is the spot for you! If you’re looking for hiking trails and an outdoor amphitheater, Peninsula State Park is the place to be. And if a quiet boat ride sounds delightful, make sure to stop by Shoreline Scenic Cruises in Gillis Rock. For a nature-filled day, stop by Bailey’s Harbor to see The Cook-Albert Fuller Nature Center. The nature center has boardwalk style trails – to keep your feet out of the mud – and even features a trail that leads to a lighthouse and sandy beach! With plenty of other hidden gems along the road, Door County is sure to keep you busy for the day (or weekend)!
